Karl May (1842-1912) was a German writer whose adventure tales set in the American West and other "exotic" locales were traditionally devoured by young German-speaking readers. May (pron. MYE) is virtually unknown in the English-speaking world, but there's an Australian association devoted to enjoying, researching, and translating the works of German author Karl May into English.
