Video Podcast: Tagesschau - News in German
With the cancellation of German TV in January 2006, those of us in North America who enjoyed listening to the daily news from Germany were very disappointed. (DW-TV, EuroNews, and Pro7 Sat1 Welt offer news via the Dish Network, but it's not quite the same as the daily ARD and ZDF newscasts.) But now there is a very good alternative: video podcasting. I've already written about audio podcasts in German, but now it is easier than ever to subscribe (for free) to the nightly news in German. With a podcast subscription to the ARD network's "Tagesschau" you can automatically receive the video (or audio) of that 15-minute broadcast. If you have iTunes (Mac or Windows), there's a link at the bottom of the "Tagesschau" podcast page that lets you subscribe with one click! (You don't need an iPod, just a computer.) If you have an RSS reader, you can easily use that also. The ARD podcast is not a stream; it resides on your computer or iPod, so you can watch it at any time without worrying about network delays, etc.
By the way, if you don't already have iTunes for German music, audiobooks, and video, what's stopping you? The free iTunes software is one of the easiest and best designed programs for getting German audio or video onto your computer. Also see Video Podcasts and the "Tagesschau" and other links below.

Thanks for you link. I’ve been wanting to do this and was thinking about doing it myself. It is much easier as you described it.
