It's a proven fact: children who learn a second language from early on, are more likely to do better in subjects like math. And it's a myth that learning a second language when young will muddle the child's learning of their mother tongue or confuse them with grammar at school.
I've recently discovered an educational gem for language acquisition in children: Music Lingua. If you either have kids, know kids or enjoy kids read more...

When perceiving the two words “Music Lingua”, about which I knew absolutely nothing, I immediately wrote both words in my North American browser to search.
And the first link takes me to Lingua Music – French, Deutsch, Spanish classes for kids.
Was mich am meisten beeindruckte, war die schöne bunte Ausschmückung der Webseite. So alles für Kinder, das in uns Erwachsenen immer noch in Erinnerung bleibt.
iBuenos Dias! Guten Tag! Bonjour! und natürlich auch ‘good morning.’
What impressed me most, was the beautiful colorful decoration of the website. So everything for children, which remains in us adults still remembered.
iBuenos Dias! Guten Tag! Bonjour! and of course, good morning.
I’m 13 years old and I speak both English and Portuguese. Math for me is easy. If I try to learn German, will it get easier, harder or stay the same?
to Beatriz .. it will be easy at first when you lern by yourself or in school as a Beginner, but the more you learn, the more difficult it will become, and that is so in any foreign language.
You have been on the website ‘german.about.com’, where I can see your comment, and there on the top right is the line for Search.
This website has so many places to learn German, mainly for adults, that it would be too much for your age, but you can try.
Just enter ‘Kinderlied’ in Search, where you left your comment, and click … and you have as the first song “ABC, die Katze lief im Schnee”, with bilingual text. You can hear the melody of the song, but I think there is no vocal song to hear.
I put ‘ABC, die Katze lief im Schnee, vocal’ into Search of a favorite popular browser, and on the fourth website entry to click, I have this song in vocal from ‘You Tube’.
But I see no text, which you have to take from ‘German.about.com’ — You can do the same with several other songs.
Happy browsing — I like children songs myself.
