Chemische Elemente
Common ElementsEnglish-to-German

This glossary is a supplement to our main Chemische Elemente chart. Below you'll find the names of common Grundstoffe or Elemente whose German name differs greatly from the English (e.g., lead = Blei). Each element is listed with its chemical symbol (chemisches Zeichen) and its atomic number or Protonenzahl/Ordnungszahl. Out of the 112 known elements, only these 14 have English names that are very different from the German. The symbols (Zeichen) are usually based on Latin.
