The Third Man Walking Tour
Photos: Shooting Locations in Vienna, Austria
I never knew the old Vienna before the war, with its Strauss music, its glamour and easy charm... (opening line from the classic movie The Third Man)
When the British writer Graham Greene went to Vienna in February 1948 to research a new film for producer Alexander Korda, he could not have known that his efforts would contribute to one of the greatest film classics of all time. The following collection of photographs of Third Man filming locations in Vienna is based on the actual walking tours offered by Brigitte Timmermann and her family in Vienna. See A Different Kind of Vienna Tour for more about the walking tours that allow you to experience today's Vienna and its Third Man locations. Also see The Third Man in the German Classroom.
MY THANKS to Christopher Timmermann who was kind enough to give me a sample of the Vienna "Third Man" walking tour in April 2004, when I took the photographs you see here.
