7 Bei Anna - At Anna's Place (DVD: 9)

Anna and Holly approach the entrance to Anna's apartment house...

Anna: (to Holly) Why don't you leave this town? Go home!

Landlady: Unglaublich! Ja, wo stecken Sie denn, Fräulein Schmidt? Die Polizei ist da oben. Sie suchen nach Papieren und lesen alle Ihre Briefe, als wenn man ein Verbrecher wäre. Was will die Polizei von Ihnen?

Holly: What's she talking about?

Anna: The police. They are searching my room.

As the two go upstairs to Anna's apartment...

Hauswirtin: Sie müssen doch wissen, um was es sich handelt. Mein Gott, das ist doch schrecklich! Man ist hier nicht mehr Herr in seinem eigenen Haus! Wenn's noch die österreichische Polizei wäre, aber Amerikaner, Russen, Franzosen. Und mitten in der Nacht. Ich meine, wenn sie mich doch wenigstens vorher verständigt haetten. Seit 60 Jahren wohne ich in dem Haus...

8 In Annas Wohnung - In Anna's Flat (DVD: 9)

After Major Calloway and Sergeant Paine determine that Anna's passport is a forgery...

Holly: ...Why?

Anna: The Russians would claim me. I come from Czechoslovakia.

Hauswirtin: Wie die Vandalen! He, Sie! Wo schleppen Sie dann das wieder hin? Mein Gott, Sie können doch nicht das ganze Haus auf den Kopf stellen. Das... Oh, versteht er auch nicht. Mensch! Hier ist doch kein Wirtshaus. Hier ist das Schlafzimmer einer Dame. Frl. Schmidt, erklären Sie doch den Leuten!

Holly: What'd she say?

Anna: Only complaining about the way they behave in her house.

Hauswirtin: Hier sind früher Fürsten aus- und eingegangen. Hier hat sogar ein Metternich verkehrt.

Anna: (to Holly) Give her some cigarettes.

Hauswirtin: Das waren noch Zeiten. Da hat man sich anständig benommen. (Holly offers her some cigarettes.) Danke, danke, sehr liebenswürdig, danke, danke vielmals. Sie sind wirklich der einzig anständige Mensch hier.

Maj. Calloway: Miss Schmidt! Ready?

Calloway and the others are on their way out of the apartment. Holly asks Anna what the doctor's name is...

Anna: Winkel.

Calloway: (to Holly) What do you want to see a doctor for?

Holly: A bruised lip.

Calloway: Good.

Hauswirtin: Schöne Geschichte. Sie sind Amerikaner. Wäre so etwas in Ihrem Lande möglich? Die Leute benehmen sich ja wie die Einbrecher. Eines ist sicher. Die Befreiung habe ich mir ganz anders vorgestellt.
