Thal-Panorama: This photo, taken in April 2004, shows the valley (das Tal) in which Arnold's boyhood home still stands. Although the city of Graz (pop. 240,000) is only about six miles away, the small village of Thal seems somewhat isolated even today. In the 1960s, when Arnold was a teenager here, the "big city" of Graz must have seemed even further away when the young bodybuilder took the bus into town to train in a gym at Graz's main soccer stadium. The stadium was enlarged and remodeled in 1997 and is now named the Arnold-Schwarzenegger-Stadion.
