Scenes, Segments and DVD Chapters

A guide to the Berlin scenes/segments in The Bourne Supremacy, including those set in Berlin and in other places (Naples, Munich, Moscow, etc.). A segment may include several scenes. This guide describes the actual Berlin scene locations as much as possible.

DVD CHAPTER 1

Segment 1
Several versions of Jason Bourne's flashback/dream sequence are seen in the film. This first one happens while Jason and Marie are trying to remain "off the grid" in the Indian state of Goa. In the flashback we see very brief glimpses of Berlin scenes, traffic signs, and the fictional Brecker Hotel.

DVD CHAPTER 2

Segment 1 - Berlin-Alexanderplatz and Potsdamer Platz
This aerial segment shows two different sections of Berlin by night. The caption "Berlin, Germany" reflects the American tendency to add the redundant country name to European cities. Otherwise, we might have thought it was Berlin, France or Berlin, Spain. Throughout the film you'll see the same silliness with other locations: "Munich, Germany" and even "Amsterdam, The Netherlands"! Are Americans really so weak in geography, that they have to be told in which country a major European city is located? "Moscow, Russia"? Oh, I thought it was Moscow, Idaho.

After an aerial view of the Galeria/Kaufhof on the Alexanderplatz, we see the Potsdamer Platz complex with the Sony Center's circular roof on the right. The camera then zooms in on a nondescript building where the CIA has set up a monitoring station. Finally, we see another aerial shot of the Park Inn Berlin (formerly the Forum Hotel) and the Alexanderplatz TV Tower (Fernsehturm) in the background.

Segment 2 - File Exchange and Fusebox
It's difficult to see what's going on in this dimly lighted sequence. If you're a speed-reader you may be able to read the yellow "Tagespiegel" newspaper ad signs in German on the side of a building. Pamela Landy (Joan Allen) and her CIA people are monitoring a spy files deal that goes bad and is intended to cast suspicion on Bourne, who happens to be in India at the time.

Segment 3 - Near Tegel Airport
Kirill, the Russian bad guy played by Karl Urban ("Lord of the Rings"), drives his (rented?) Audi to a hotel at this autobahn rest stop (Raststätte) near Berlin's Tegel airport to drop off the files and collect his money from Uri Gretkov (Karel Roden). "Your flight [to Moscow] leaves in an hour," Uri reminds him. The little dialogue that New Zealand-born Urban has in this film is mostly in Russian with subtitles.

NOTE: DVD Chapters 3 and 4 are mostly the Goa, India segments. Marie (Franka Potente) is killed (by a shot intended for Bourne) during the car chase in Chapter 4. Potente as Marie has a key role in the plot, but her screen time is miniscule.

DVD CHAPTER 5

Segment 1 - Mediterranean Sea near Naples
A second unit was sent to Naples for a weekend to get a few establishing shots of Bourne arriving by ship from North Africa (Tangiers). He makes amazing time getting from India to Italy traveling by bus and boat!
