GLOW’s German Tutor Database

Register as a Tutor with GLOW

A National Database of Tutors and Translators for German

NOTE: About.com's German Tutor Directory is no longer online, but the GLOW service described below offers a good alternative. The following information was provided by GLOW.

From GLOW (German Learning Opportunities Website):

GLOW, the AATG's new interactive "seek and find" database of German programs and tutors/translators, is growing faster than all expectations. Registrations from all 50 states and several countries represent over 100,000 students with the number growing daily. Already GLOW is receiving reports of tutors/translators getting jobs and of new students locating programs. The German Consulates, the Goethe Institutes, and various Web sites (including About.com) are advertising to the public.

Initiated by Cecilia Cloughly, President of the AATG Southern California Chapter, GLOW advertises all kinds of German learning opportunities and provides an on-going census of language learners. AATG-SC member Heinz Kohlmeier, the German Language Consultant from the Auswärtiges Amt assigned to the Los Angeles Consulate General, is advertising GLOW to the German-American community, the Saturday Schools, and the general public.

We are asking every teacher and translator of German to register immediately, in order to create a band wagon movement and to show the public that German is far from dying out in the US. It takes less than 5 minutes to enter the required information. Searchers design their own personalized list according to type of program, geographic area (county), name of institution, and contact person. The confidential enrollment estimates from each institution are not available to the public and are used only in national and regional totals.

GLOW encourages individuals who occasionally accept tutoring and/or translating jobs to register twice, once as an individual and a second time as a program contact. We suggest also that retired colleagues can stay involved in the field by registering as possible resource people, translators, and/or tutors.

You can register online at www.LearnGerman.US.
