Ein Hochdruckgebiet
A high-pressure zone
This weather map shows a zone of high pressure (das Hochdruckgebiet) over Europe in early May. The two low-pressure zones are marked by a "T" for Tief. The Kanaren (lower left) are the Canary Islands in the Atlantic, a popular tourist destination for Germans and other Europeans.
German and European weather forecasters often name highs and lows, much as U.S. forecasters name hurricanes.
