Predefined RGB Web Colors - Webfarben

With Audio

Special ColorsSonderfarben
WEBFARBEN: There are 16 predefined Web colors that have a specific name. The color chart below shows these special colors in a color scale with the German and English name for each color. (To find a color by its English name, see our Alphabetical Color List.)

Web colors used on HTML pages are usually designated with an alphanumeric (hexadecimal) code that combines the three colors red, blue, and green (RGB). Each color has a value from 00 to FF, with 00 (zeros) being black, or no color at all, and FF being the fully saturated tone of the color. The first two numbers/letters represent the red component, the second two the green, the last two the blue component. To get the color red, the hexadecimal code is FF0000. For black, the code is 000000, while white is FFFFFF. However, the predefined colors can be entered as a word: "green" will produce that color, without using the code (#008000). For each color below the hexadecimal code is also indicated.

Note: Some browsers also support additional color names ("Netscape colors") that offer an even wider palette of tones (chartreuse, ivory, sienna, etc.). To be safe, use the hexadecimal code, which all Web browsers support. - The 216 so-called Web-safe colors were more important when older 8-bit monitors were the rule. But today's monitors do not have to "dither" complex colors. For more on Web colors, see the Web Color Gallery from About's Web Design site.
