Introduction
Below you will find a sampling of epitaphs for famous and lesser-known people buried in graveyards around the world. A few are anonymous and possibly apocryphal. Each Grabinschrift is presented in German and English, or in some cases, Latin, mathematics, and English.

- Werner Heisenberg (1901-1976), German quantum physicist known for his "uncertainty principle." (born in Würzburg, died in Munich)

In memory of our brother killed in an air battle, attorney Reinhold Oertelt, Reserve 2nd Lt. in Fighter Squadron 19, Order of the Knights First Class, born 18 May 1893, fallen 7 July 1917 in France

(Note: Oertelt was born in Berlin. He was shot down during WWI on 7 July 1917 as the 47th victim of the French flying ace Capitaine Georges Guynemer. His memorial was removed in 2002.)

Manfred von Richthofen (See photo above)
Dreimal beigesetzt!/Buried three times! (1) 22. April 1918 - The Allies bury Richthofen with full military honors in Bertangles, France. (2) 20. November 1925 - Richthofen's body is transfered from France. In an elaborate state funeral attended by Reichspräsident Paul von Hindenburg the ace flier is interned in Berlin's Invalidenfriedhof. (3) 1975 - Manfred von Richthofen is moved to Wiesbaden's Südfriedhof, where he has hopefully found his final resting place. - Grabmal24.de
