About this Photo: The Chiemsee (Lake Chiem) is Germany's largest lake totally within German borders. Located southeast of Munich, not far from Salzburg, the Chiemsee is a popular lake for sailing. In the lake are two islands, the Herreninsel and the Fraueninsel. On the Herreninsel you'll find Ludwig II's Herrenchiemsee palace, a replica of Versailles in Paris. In the background are the world-famous Alps (die Alpen).
