Austria3 CD

AUSTRIA 3 is a three-man live CD
with Wolfgang Ambros, Rainhard
Fendrich, and Georg Danzer.

Österreicher - Introduction
Even most Americans have heard of the late, great Falco (“Rock Me Amadeus”), and his recordings are still popular around the globe. But there's a host of other Austrian groups and artists that few English-speakers have ever heard, or heard of — unfortunately. Their musical genres range from techno and rock to folk and musical satire reminiscent of Spike Jones or Stan Freeberg. Have you ever heard the music of Wolfgang Ambros, Peter Cornelius, Georg Danzer, EAV, Rainhard Fendrich, André Heller, Ludwig Hirsch, or STS? If these names are unfamiliar, it's time for you to look more closely at Austrian performers.

*Note: “No Kangaroos” and Radio Helsinki were established in April 2001 by Susanne Kaufmann in an effort to combat the fact that the regular Austrian (and German) public and private radio stations, including Ö3, play very little music by Austrian or German artists. In Ö3's so-called “Austria Top 40” you're more likely to see English titles by artists such as Shania Twain rather than Austria's STS. It's not any better in Germany (see www.hit1.de). But even Radio Helsinki plays music with English lyrics. German songs for the most part just aren't “in” in Austria and Germany!

Also see the Musiker in eigener Sache Web site for a German initiative for getting more German-language music played on German radio and TV.
