This popular Christmas song was first recorded and made famous by the American cowboy singer Gene Autry. In 1939, in an effort to attract more holiday shoppers to the Montgomery Ward stores (1872-2001), Robert L. May wrote a narrative poem about an underdog reindeer who saves Christmas one foggy night. ENGLISH Literal translation (Orig. English lyrics) Rudolph with the red nose had a red lamp, and who ever saw it would say, that it glowed. All the other reindeer laughed often and scolded him. They never let poor Rudolph onto their playground. Then one foggy night, Christkind came and said: Rudolph with your nose that glows, are you the one to pull the sleigh? And how the reindeer loved him as they shouted yippee! Rudolph with the red nose now you'll live for eternity. |
