Tips and Tricks for iTunes 2

Using Browse to Find German Songs and Artists

The colorful "eye" indicates
the "Browse" button in iTunes.
Besides using the iTunes search feature that we discussed in iTunes Tips: Part 1, there's another way to find German songs and artists in iTunes. As you can see in the illustration on right, iTunes also has a "Browse" button. I thought it would be more helpful than it actually is, but it is still worth knowing about.
For one thing, the "Browse" button lets you view the genre category "German Pop"which you can't do from the pull-down menu (see screen shot) on the main iTunes page. (There's also a "French Pop" category if you're interested.) When you click on "Browse" you'll see a "Genre" column with various genres not found in the main menu. Take a look at the screen shot below:
Genre > Artist > Album >

As you can see, "German Pop" has been selected in the left column. In the center ("Artist") column "Andrea Berg" is selected, and that brings up (in the right column) the titles of all the albums by Berg that iTunes has. If you select one of her albums, the song titles for that album will appear in the window below the three columns (see large screen shot).
The browse feature and the "German Pop" category offer a good way to find more German artists and songs. You can also find more German Interpreten not listed under "German Pop" in some of the other browse genres. For instance, if you select "Electronic" or "Hip Hop/Rap" the artist list will include a few German artists. If you're not sure they're German, you can usually determine that by selecting the artist's name and looking at the album titles to see if they're German.
A few problems: The iTunes browser works as described above, but... when you select some artist names that appear in the artist column, they produce no results. I'm not sure why iTunes lists artists who apparently have no albums at iTunes, but it is only a minor inconvenience.
Another minor complaint is that some of the artists listed under "German Pop" really belong under a different genre, but I recommend you check some of the other genres anyway to find more German artists and songs.
