Countries are listed with their Internationales KFZ-Kennzeichen (Intl. License Plate Country Symbol) in parentheses. The plurals of nationalities are not shown unless they are an exception. In most cases, the plural is the same as the masculine singular, as in die Amerikaner (the Americans) or die Brasilianer (the Brazilians). The feminine plural usually ends in -innen, as in die Amerikanerinnen (the female Americans). Each country also has the English and German name of its capital city (Hauptstadt). See the Index for countries not listed here.

NOTE: The adjectival forms are not capitalized in German: ein amerikanisches Auto (an American car), das deutsche Lied (the German song).

Note: The USA is always plural in German! The US is a large country. = Die USA sind ein großes Land. Germans tend to make the distinction US-Amerikaner for an American from the US, as opposed to other "Americans" in North and South America.
