LOUIS/LUDWIG MEANS WHAT?!
What's in a name? The German name Ludwig translates as Louis/Lewis in English. But what does Ludwig really mean? Where does the name come from? And why is it an even less popular name than Louis today? And if your name happens to be Lewis or Louis, it may interest you to know that your name (in its French pronunciation of LU-EE) is German slang for... Well, take a look at the article to find that tidbit and much more about famous Ludwigs in history

NEU! WER BIN ICH? - RATESPIEL 7
Diese Persoenlichkeit war der Buergermeister von Magdeburg und Berlin... That's part of the key information in the latest installment of our "Wer bin ich?" game. Again, this time there's no prize being offered, but I will publish the names and cities of the Top 15 entrants who email me the correct answer. See if you can come up with... die siebte Persoenlichkeit in unserem biografischen Ratespiel.

RATESPIEL 6 - ENTRIES FROM DOZENS OF COUNTRIES
I received many correct (and incorrect) entries for the 6th "Wer bin ich?" -- so many, that I decided to list the top 15 rather than just the top 10, as originally announced. There could have been even more listed, but some entrants failed to give me BOTH their name and town. I did not include people who sent in later entries or failed to follow directions and tell me where they were from. It's always fascinating to me to find out where people are learning German. Besides the US and Canada, some of the places I received answers from include the expected, such as Austria and Germany, but also many other countries around the globe: India, Denmark, Italy, New Zealand and the Slovak Republic. You can see the correct answer and the Top 15 list at the links below, but the most popular WRONG answers were: Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo.

- Deutsches Forum - nur Deutsch!

DRUCKVERSION PAGES POPULAR
My thanks to those of you who wrote me about the print version pages. Everyone who wrote thought the DRUCKVERSION was a great idea, so I will include those in all future lessons.

AOL - STILL
For obvious reasons I'm still hearing from AOL subscribers about the missing-issues question a few Ausgaben ago. I myself did not receive the previous issue (#43) of this newsletter at my own AOL mailbox, although I did receive the two before that (and I received issue 43 at my other email addresses). If you're in the same boat, or if you miss an issue of ABOUT GERMAN for any reason, you can always find past issues in our German Forum 1 in the "Newsletter" folder. Just follow this link:
