The Tutor Directory is no longer online. - Reluctantly I decided to discontinue the Tutor Directory for German in fall 2006. Unfortunately, the Directory that we offered from 2003 to 2006 was requiring more of my time than I could spare. To do it right I would need to spend much more time on it. I'm looking into a way to have it be more automated or self-run, but we are not accepting any new listings from tutors, and the Directory folder is no longer available. For alternatives, please see: The GLOW Tutor Directory and Lessons and Courses.

Tutor Directory FAQ

Q: What is the Tutor Directory?
A: Our worldwide Tutor Directory for German was a listing for persons interested in receiving either person-to-person, small-group or online tutoring (email, chat, Web) in German. We listed tutors located anywhere on the globe. The directory listed persons who tutor adults and/or children in the German language. It was found in our German Language Forum I in the Tutor Directory folder.

For an alternative, see the GLOW Tutor Directory run by the AATG's Southern California chapter - for all 50 states and foreign countries.

Q: How Do Tutors Get Listed?
A: We are no longer accepting tutor applications.

Q: What is the cost for tutoring?
A: Each tutor set his or her own hourly rate, plus any fees for other services. Fees varied by location, tutor experience, instruction mode or level, plus other factors. Some tutors offer free introductory lessons. Highly experienced, very knowledgeable tutors charge more than less experienced tutors. You need to determine your own needs and level of instruction. We did not list tutors who charge less than $10 per hour for instruction.

Q: How can I get free tutoring?
A: In our German Language Forum you can find help from volunteers (German natives and advanced German-learners) who kindly offer their help for free. But if you want serious, regular tutoring over a period of time, you can't expect that for free.

Q: Are translators listed also?
A: To find a translator or translation services, see our Translating German page, where we list professional translators and translation Web sites. You can also check the listings for tutors who expressly offer translation services for letters and other documents (for a fee, of course). The GLOW Database also lists translators. For simple, short translations, try our Free Translation page.
