Denglisch (Denglish) Dictionary
There are several definitions of Denglisch, but the word basically refers to the excessive use of English (and pseudo English) vocabulary in German. For the details, see Denglisch: When Languages Collide. In the Denglisch Dictionary below, each entry lists (1) the Denglisch term with its gender, (2) its meaning to German-speakers, and (3) the German word(s) for the term, if any. (Note: In most cases the German term is rarely used.) Some words (das Handy, der Smoking, etc.) link to a more in-depth explanation or clarification.
Words with a yellow background are either false/pseudo anglicisms (not real English) or English words with a meaning in German that is different from the normal English meaning. Words marked with an asterisk (*) are English words or expressions that have been integrated into German (eingedeutscht) for so long that they are no longer considered foreign or Denglisch.
NOTE: This dictionary presents only a sample of Denglisch words. It does not claim to contain every Denglisch term used in German.

| Many German-speakers mispronounce (and sometimes misspell) the adjective "live" as "life." The Live- prefix also appears in German nouns: die Liveaufnahme ("live recording"), die Livesendung ("live broadcast"), or the even more Denglisch word die Live-Appearance. | ||
