Guidelines and Instructions

You are here:
Introduction to Webhunts > Guidelines > German Webhunts

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
In all of our Webhunts you should answer all of the questions and do all tasks (Aufgaben) for that exercise (Übung). These are online activities requiring a serious, Web-capable computer with current browser software! Some activities may use streaming audio and require free browser plug-ins (that most people have already).

TEACHERS
Teachers of German are welcome to use these webhunts as they are, but they will also provide ideas for creating your own webhunts tailored to your specific needs.

ENGLISH and GERMAN
If a question requires an answer in German, make sure you get the answer from the specified source and that it is indeed the exact word or words found there (not a translation!). Some tasks ask you for German and English responses. The questions and task instructions (in bold italics) are purposely in English to avoid giving away possible answers and to avoid any misunderstanding about the assignment. However, most of the questions require either an answer in German or an answer in English from a German source.

If a Webhunt offers an answer key, you can request it, but only if you include your own answers with your request. A key request without your answers will not be honored. (In a classroom setting with several students doing the Web exercises, only the teacher should request an answer key.) See more about answer key requests below.

BROWSER FUNCTIONS - TIPS
To complete the Webhunt, you may need to use your browser's BACK button/function to return to previous pages. Be sure you are familiar with these functions in your Web browser. It is highly recommended that you use only recent browser versions for this exercise. Older browsers may not display a site properly. Some exercises require or are enhanced by streaming audio. They may require the free RealAudio or Windows Media Player plug-ins for sound. If you need to learn more about audio on the Web, see our Streaming Audio FAQ.

The exercise URL addresses are hypertext links that allow you to click directly to the destination Web site for each exercise. When you click on a link, the Web site will open in a NEW WINDOW. By keeping two browser windows open, you can easily switch back and forth between the exercises and the destination site windows. You can also click on "Turn off this top frame" in the new window if you want to have a larger, ad-free view of the selected site. - It may make your task easier if you PRINT OUT or SAVE some Web pages, but this is not required. Printing out a copy of a Webhunt in advance may also be helpful.

Mainly, we hope you will learn something and enjoy the experience!

ANSWER KEY REQUESTS
Answers for any Webjagd that offers a key must be submitted via email (plain text only, no attachments) with the subject "Webhunt (number) answers." In your key request, please format your answers with the tasks (Aufgaben) listed and numbered in the same order as they appear in the exercise. Participants who do not follow these guidelines may be asked to resubmit their answers. Send your answers/key request to german.guide@about.com (don't forget the correct subject!).

The hunt begins! Die Jagd geht auf!
