das Lametta (no plur.)  tinsel; (hum.) medals, gongs (Br.); chaff (mil., metal foil strips used to avoid radar detection)

There are people who don't want any tinsel on the Christmas tree.
If a person is wearing "Lametta," that's an ironic allusion to an excessive string of military decorations and medals.

Note: The German word Lametta is derived from the diminutive form of lama, Italian for "blade." In Italian, a lametta is a razor blade.

Related: der Flitter tinsel (glitz), sequin(s)
