Tipp des Tages - Part of German for Beginners
er - sie - es: In German the pronouns for things are just like the pronouns for people! A tree is "he" (not it!)—for der Baum/er. A door is "she"—for die Tür/sie. A book is "it" because es agrees with das Buch. Our point? Stop thinking in English when you are speaking or writing German! Things are "it" only if they are das! Don't call everything in German "es" (it)! Learn your German noun genders!
