Tipp des Tages - Part of German for Beginners
A Different Way of Saying It - Although English and German are often similar, German has some common expressions that take a different approach from English. For instance, in English we say, "I'm sorry." In German you say: Es tut mir leid. ("It does me sorrow.") By the same token, to say you like something in German, you say: Das gefällt mir. ("That pleases me.") A "black eye" is ein blaues Auge ("a blue eye") in German. Be aware of these differences as you continue to learn vocabulary in German.
