This quiz relates to the article Day by Day: Day Expressions in German and German for Beginners Lesson 10 and Lesson 12. You should have reviewed the items above, including the Day by Day Glossary before attempting this quiz.

Remember, the instructions said you had to to include the correct gender/article for nouns, as in: day = der Tag. For special German characters you should have typed: ae for ä, oe for ö, ue for ü, and ss for ß. Yes, capitalization and spelling DID count!
1. in her day = in ihrer Zeit ["time" not "day" in German]
2. to carry the day = den Sieg davontragen [= to carry away victory]
3. Have a nice day! = Schoenen (Schönen) Tag noch! [said by store clerks or salespeople.]
4. in those day = damals [= back then, at that time]
5. today = heute [often used in combinations: heute Abend = this evening, heute Morgen = this morning]
6. day after day = tagtaeglich [tagtäglich - one word! - Also: Tag fuer Tag]
7. the next day = am naechsten Tag [nächsten - Also means "on the next day"]
8. once a day = einmal taeglich [lit., "one time daily"]
9. Those were the days. = Das waren noch Zeiten. [as in item 1, "times" not "days"]
10. daybreak = der Tagesanbruch
11. days of the week = die Wochentage (plural) [der Wochentag = weekday]
12. the daily grind = der Alltagstrott
13. What day is today? = Welchen Tag haben wir heute? [as with many German idioms, this one uses 'haben' (to have), when English uses 'to be.']
14. on a clear day = bei klarem Wetter ["clear weather"]
15. one of these days = eines Tages [also means "one day" - as in "One day we went..."]
