It sounds like science-fiction. Download an electronic German book for free or at low cost and read it anywhere you want on a handheld device. But you can do that today! (You can also do it on your desktop or laptop computer.) In an earlier feature we discussed German audiobooks, and they are definitely great! But even though they're usually less expensive than a hardcover book, they do cost a bit and very few German audiobooks are downloadable in any digital format. While we hope that will change in the near future, there is an online source of German reading material and other software that you can access now! There's also a cost advantage for eBooks. A bestseller like The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown costs about $25 in its hardcover edition. The eBook version costs only about $11-18, depending on the software format. Electronic books and reference materials in German are available from a variety of sources. German ebook titles include works by authors of classic, modern, and contemporary literature.
