Two Polls - Zwei Umfragen
I'm asking for your help. We've got two short surveys that we'd like you to respond to. These Umfragen (polls) are designed to help me optimize this site for you – the "audience" that is trying to learn German. By answering a few brief questions, you can help assure that we will be offering materials and links that better suit your needs in the future.
You'll be glad to know that we only have one of the two polls for you this week. The second will be available next week.
63% Opposed!
In earlier German Language surveys, we discovered some interesting facts. For instance, in our very first poll about German spelling reform (Rechtschreibreform) we asked: "Are you in favor of Rechtschreibreform?" A whopping 63% of the 166 total respondents answered: "No. The traditional spelling is just fine." Only 16% said "Yes. It's a needed change and a step in the right direction." One in five (20%) chose "Yes, but it doesn't go far enough." (That's the one I would choose myself.) – So the nays have it when it comes to German spelling reform.
Poll number two was very revealing about how many of you use audio on the Web to listen to German. Over 60% of those who answered Umfrage 2 have listened to German on the Web, and 15% of those said they listen more than once a week. (You can find articles and links for German on the Web under Listening or Radio in German in the "Subjects" sidebar on the left of any page.) But 39% of the respondents said they had never listened to German online! Now that we offer German audio at this site, I hope that 39% figure will drop dramatically!
The initial response to Poll 3 has been very encouraging, with more than 600 people entering. The more people who participate in our poll, the more valid the results will be. I'd like to get even more of you to participate in Poll 4!
