We introduced our first German chat room back in the spring of 1999. (Now there are two.) By that summer it was time for the premiere of the German Language Forum, our discussion board for any aspect of learning German – in English or German. Then, in the fall of 2000, we introduced an additional all-German Deutsches Forum. In either of our two forums you can share information and practice your German.

You'll find several sections (folders) for various themes in Forum 1: "Grammar + Vocabulary," "Treffpunkt" (for introductions), and "General Discussion." Our Deutsches Forum is aimed primarily at native German-speakers and advanced students, but anyone is welcome if they have a good command of German. From time to time, we add new folders/themes to both forums. Feel free to suggest a new one yourself!

Whichever topic or language you choose, in order to enjoy either forum's features, you'll need to become a member. About.com membership is free and includes further benefits such as a free Web page and a free email address. You can also visit our forums as a read-only guest, but you'll want to sign up right away for full access. Just click on "Become a Member" at the top of this page or any other German Language page to register. If you're a memebr of one of our forums (or any other About forum), you're able to sign in to either German forum.

Your Guide and the forum hosts, led by German native Brigitte Dubiel, will be happy to help you with any grammar, vocabulary, cultural or literature questions you may have. Of course, our many forum members are also ready to share information about their own efforts to learn German. It all adds up to a wonderful resource for anyone – beginner or advanced – studying the German language and culture. See you there!
