German Expressions

The following is a list of colloquial expressions indicating enthusiasm, indifference and displeasure. Most can be used for both spoken and written German, however due to their colloquial nature, these expressions are more appropriate for informal letters and e-mail. The sentences/phrases in the list are only examples of one way these expressions may be said. Just like in English, you can word the expressions differently. For instance, you can simply say Prima! instead of Das ist prima! or Sie redet nur Quatsch! instead of Was für ein Quatsch!

Admiration and Enthusiasm
Das finde ich toll!	I think it's great!
Ich finde das prima!	That's first rate!
Das ist ja herrlich!	That's marvelous!
Es ist wunderbar!	That's wonderful!
Das ist- klasse spitze stark irre super hervorragend ausgezeichnet erstklassig	That is- terrific fantastic awesome mind-blowing super outstanding excellent first-rate
Indifference
Das ist mir wurscht.	I couldn't care less.
Es ist mir egal.	I don't care.
Ich habe nichts dagegen.	I have nothing against it.
Meinetwegen.	Whatever.
Macht nichts.	Doesn't matter.
Es macht mir nichts aus.	It doesn't matter to me.
Das ist nicht meine Sorge.	That is not of my concern.
Displeasure and Negative Mood
Ich bin kaputt.	I'm exhausted.
Das finde ich blöd.	I find that dumb.
Mir ist ganz elend	I feel really awful
Das ist eckelhaft.	That is revolting.
Ich bin in schlechter Laune.	I'm in a bad mood.
Donnerwetter!	Good grief!
Das ist schrecklich!	That is terrible!
Was für ein Quatsch/Unsinn!	What nonsense!
Der hat wohl nicht alle Tassen im Schrank.	He doesn't have all his marbles.
Er ist so doof.	He is so dumb.
Was für eine Frechheit!	The nerve!
Das ist unerhört!	That is unheard of!
