Examples:
Die visuellen Effekte in diesem Film sind cool.
The visual effects in this movie are cool.
Im Effekt ist die Pensionsreform in ein Bermudadreieck gefallen.
In effect, pension reform has fallen into a Bermuda triangle. (Austria)
Der Effekt war gleich null.
There was no effect whatsoever.
'Effekten' ist eine altmodische Bezeichnung für Wertpapiere (Aktien, Anleihen, usw.). Noch heute wird jedoch die Wertpapierbörse als Effektenbörse und die Wertpapierabteilung als Effektenabteilung bezeichnet.
"Effekten" is an old-fashioned term for securities (stocks, bonds, etc.). However, even today a security exchange is still called an Effektenbörse and the securities department an Effektenabteilung.

Examples:
Sie haben in den 30er Jahren alle Geschäftsbeziehungen eingestellt.
They cut off all business relations in the '30s.
Das Buch ist falsch eingestellt.
The book has been put in the wrong place.
Er stellt die Kamera ein.
He's focusing the camera.
Geistes-/geistes- mental/mentally (in compounds)
geistig mental, intellectual; spiritual (bond, feeling)
geistlich spiritual, religious, having to do with the clergy
Examples:
Sie ist geisteskrank.
She is mentally ill.
Er ist geistig nicht mehr das, was er einmal war.
He is mentally no longer what he once was.

Examples:
Sie hat die Passagierliste.
She has the passenger list.
Nur mit großer List hat er das geschafft.

Examples:
Heute haben wir Pute zum Abendessen.

Examples:
Mein Bruder ist ein richtiger Schussel.
My brother is a real dolt/klutz.
Fast jede Wohnung in diesem Haus hat eine Schüssel am Balkon.
Almost every flat in this building has a (satellite) dish on the balcony.
Note: Sometimes der Schussel is feminine - die Schussel (-n)
die Unterhaltung conversation, entertainment
sich unterhalten to talk, carry on a conversation; enjoy oneself
gesprochenes Deutsch conversational German
Examples:
Man kann sich mit ihr gut unterhalten.
She's easy to talk to.
Sie unterrichtet gesprochenes Deutsch, aber kein Wirtschaftsdeutsch.
She teaches conversational German, but not business German.
der Zug (Züge) train; draft (wind), puff; gulp, swig; parade; characteristic, trait; stroke, move
Examples:
Sie fahren mit dem Zug.
They're going by train.
Er hat das Glas in einem Zug geleert.
He emptied the glass in one gulp/swig.
Das ist nicht sein schönster Zug.
That's not his best trait.
Du bist am Zug.
It's your move.
