Cool Names for Your Dog or Cat

Need a cool name for your dog, cat, or other pet? How about a German name? The list below has been culled from various German pet name lists. Such lists always include many English and other non-German names that we have edited out, since our readers are looking for actual German or Germanic pet names. If you know of a good Germanic name we've left out, please send it to me. Names ending in -chen, -lein, or -li are diminutives (little, y-ending in English). Although most of the names in our list are just names (e.g., Beethoven, Elfriede, etc.), in some cases the English meaning for a German name is indicated: Adler (eagle). For more about German names for pets, see the article Dog and Cat Names in German.
If you want to see some actual online German pet name lists, see our special links page.
