The Beatles: MY BONNIE

SONG BACKGROUND
This German version of "My Bonnie" was recorded in Hamburg-Harburg, Germany in the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in June 1961. It was released in October 1961 on the German Polydor label as a 45 rpm single by "Tony Sheridan and the Beat Boys" (Beatles). The Beatles had played in Hamburg clubs with Sheridan, and it was he who sang the German intro and the rest of the lyrics. (There were two versions of "My Bonnie" released, one with the German "Mein Herz" intro, and another only in English.) The recording was produced by the German Bert Kaempfert, with "The Saints" ("When the Saints Go Marching In") on the B side. This single is considered the very first commercial record by the Beatles, although the Beatles barely got second billing. At this time the Beatles consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Pete Best (drummer). Best was later replaced by Ringo Starr, who had also performed in Hamburg with another group when the Beatles were there.MORE > The Beatles in Germany and in German
MY BONNIE - MEIN HERZ IST BEI DIR NUR
My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean
Music: Traditional Scottish Folk Song - German Lyrics: Charles Pratt
German intro with English lyrics
Mein Herz ist bei dir nur, my darling,
Mein Herz fand bei dir nur das Glück,
Noch trennen uns Länder und Meere,
Doch bald kehre ich wieder zurück.
My Bonnie lies over the ocean,
My Bonnie lies over the sea.
Well, my Bonnie lies over the ocean,
Yeah, bring back my Bonnie to me.
Yeah, bring back, ah, bring back, (now)
Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me, to me.
Oh, bring, oh bring back (now), ah, bring back,
Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me.
Whoa!
Ah! ho! ho! ho!
Ah! go! go! go! go!
Ho! ho! ho!
Go! go! go!
Oh ho! oh ho!
(I know) Well, my Bonnie lies over the ocean,
My Bonnie lies over the sea.
Well, my Bonnie lies over the ocean,
Yeah, bring back my Bonnie to me.
(I know) Yeah, bring back, (now) ah, bring back,
Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me, to me. (now)
Oh, bring back, (now) ah, bring back,
Ho! Bring back my Bonnie to me.
