SONG BACKGROUND

This Prinzen song was first released in 1996. With its humorous approach to the theme of cemeteries, blood, and vampires, it makes for a good German "Halloween" song. The literal meaning of Schlotterstein is "shiver-stone" or "shudder-stone," but the title also refers to a popular German board game for children named "Schloss Schlotterstein" ("Castle Schlotterstein").

Schlotterstein Hymn

English literal prose translation

Also see the original German lyrics for this song.

When the moon's standing above the cemetery
And the watchman's making his rounds
Then it is finally midnight
That's the time when the vampire awakes

He loves the moonlight and the crypt
And also the cold cemetery air
And always after the last gong
He sings his graveyard song

CHORUS
And when the moon is standing in the sky
And when the tower clock strikes twelve
Then comes the time when the vampire awakes
And then he flies through the black night
And hardly a person (human) has seen him
For when the others go to sleep
Then comes the time when the vampire awakes

A vampire always needs fresh blood
And doesn't feel really good until
Until he's had his fill
Only after 3, 4 liters is he full

He loves the graves and the crypt
And also the cold cemetery air
And he doesn't want to be like humans
For he is a Schlotterstein vampire
Yes, he's a Schlotterstein vampire
