This book by Paul G. graves is a useful elementary book for learning both written and spoken German with or without a teacher.This book has sketches along with photographs of cities and well known locations to reinforce the lessons in the student's mind. the conversational and reading material's cover a real-life situations;and include the exact vocabulary one would need in that to carry you through most situation.
The down side is that,so of this book is placed on the early stages of elementaty German, that the reader will progress slower that usual. The practice exercises allow the student to use what they have learned.The most useful words and expressions are repeated so often you assimulate them just by reading the lesson.
